Where I've Been
Short Story: I'm just a mid-western gal who lives her Yoga.
Long Story: I grew up in rural Ohio with three other siblings eating, breathing and living everything Polish. Growing up I was very much into sports, Ballet and gymnastics, as my parents did a great job involving us in an array of activities. But education came first and I took mine very seriously (don't tell anyone but I love learning), graduating from Miami University with a B.A. in International Studies. Which, coincidentally was where I was first introduced to the word yoga in a class I was taking. I didn't think of it again until my husband and I were living in Alberta, Canada, and a friend of mine coerced me to join her in taking a yoga class. Reluctantly, I went and immediately I was hooked. I should preface by saying that before this I never gave yoga a chance because I presumed it was easy and just a bunch of stretching. It wasn't until after I took my first few classes that I realized yoga was not only a physical challenge but mental and spiritual as well. It is a journey (not a destination) that doesn't end when you roll your mat up but transcends into your everyday life. Moreover, the physical asana practice is but a drop in the ocean of what yoga is all about.
To continue, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher but I didn't know exactly what I wanted to teach. As I began to dive deeper into my yoga practice, I realized the vastness of yoga and my inquisitive mind wanted to know more. Then came my a-ha moment. I had found my calling and enrolled in Flow Yoga SLC's Yoga Alliance certified teacher training program. It was a 200 hour training in Vinyasa Flow Yoga and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I'd love to share it with you...
By the way, I also love my family, absorbing the sun's rays, protecting the environment, mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing, cooking, reading and believe it or not cleaning.
